Meet Noelani Cubillos-Sanchez

Noelani Cubillos-Sanchez is a Community of Practice Fellow, Hispanic-Serving Institutions for the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge at Civic Nation.

Raised in El Paso, Texas, Noelani Cubillos-Sanchez moved to San Antonio and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration at the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Prior to joining the Office of Civic and Community-Engaged Leadership, Noelani served as a Field Fellow with the nonpartisan, grassroots nonprofit organization MOVE Texas. Her responsibilities included managing a team of interns and reaching out to thousands of college students across college campuses to conduct voter registration and promoting voter ready materials.

She joined the UTSA Center for Civic Engagement in 2018 in the capacity of Administrative and Program Assistant while completing her degree and has been promoted to the new role of Civic Leadership Program Specialist in the newly renamed Office of Civic and Community-Engaged Leadership to promote civic literacy, build civic capacity, and expand voter engagement on campus with campus and community partner organizations. Noelani also oversees students in the Rowdy Corps Community Scholars program who are placed with local civic engagement community organizations and public serving agencies such as City Council offices and NowCASTSA , MoveTX and others.

Noelani manages the community-engagement platform Givepulse and is responsible for scaling its use to track and collect data on university community engagement based on the Carnegie Community Engagement framework.

Noelani is an officer with La Raza Faculty and Staff, serves on several campus committees such as the Civil Rights Marches, Hispanic Heritage Month and Student Success Centers committee. Noelani served as an SA2020 Ambassador and 2030 Community Vision Content Expert. She participated in the City of San Antonio Neighborhood Leadership program and is a member of the Service-Learning Intercollegiate Collaborative (SLIC) and has participated in the Race Equity Institute’s capacity-building modules and the San Antonio Compassionate Integrity Training.
 
Her passions include empowering voters to engage with local government and become advocates for themselves, as well as learning how systemic issues affect housing policy, urban planning, and inclusive community development. Noelani enjoys cycling, spending time with Shamus, her fur baby, loves coffee and has yet to come across a food that she does not like.
