Meet Daniel Tomé

Daniel Fidalgo Tomé, Ed.D. is the Federal Work-Study (FWS) Fellow with the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge at Civic Nation.

Dr. Tomé is the Director of Community Engagement in the Division of Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Engagement at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey – Camden. He is responsible for the Community Engagement unit of the division which oversees the Engaged Civic Learning (ECL) courses, Bonner Civic Scholars program and Community Partnership Centers; supporting students, faculty and community partners to address concerns in the community. He also runs the ECL Faculty Fellows program where he trains faculty members to engage in community-based learning, service-learning and social justice education pedagogy for their course development and engaged scholarship. 

Dr. Tomé  has served as the chair for the American Democracy Project steering committee for the American Association of State Colleges & Universities (AASCU) as well as the chair of the Committee of Community Service & Service-Learning in the Commission on Student Involvement for the American College Personnel Association (ACPA). He is currently also the FWS Fellow for Campus Compact, working on revising material for campuses utilizing FWS-CS on their campuses. 

Dr. Tomé received his Doctorate in Education focused in Organizational Leadership from Stockton University. His dissertation addressed first-generation students who received federal work study funds at four year public regional institutions. He received his Masters in Education from the University of Massachusetts Amherst focused in Social Justice Education and earned his Bachelor of Science in Environmental Policy, Institutions and Behavior from Cook College, Rutgers University.

Dr. Tomé’s most recent publications are an article in the Metropolitan Universities Journal – Finances and Future Health: Understanding Barriers to First-Generation Student Utilization of Federal Work-Study  and was a contributing author to the Reframing Community Engagement in Higher Education
